Short-term joint staff training events

Course ”Introduction to Forum  Theatre”

12th-16th of January 2015

Iasi, Romania

 

The first short-term joint staff training events in the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships for school education ”Forum theatre – a Learning Instrument for Education” took place in Iasi, Romania, between 12th and 16th of January, 2015. 

Colegiul Național ”G. Ibrăileanu” from Iaşi, Romania, hosted the meeting. At this event participated teachers from all partner countries: Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Turkey. According to the Application form, there were included five teachers from each partner school. Except Slovenia (there were presented only four teachers with the accept of their Agency), all teachers were presented.

The "Introduction to Forum Theatre" course aimed to introduce the forum theatre method to teachers. There were different kind of approaches: historical, methodological, didactical and learning by doing. The activities were diverse but it maintain a logical structure: debates, presentations, workshops, interactive sessions, participation to theatre and moving on stage demonstration. In the agenda of the event were also mentioned visiting the school, assisted to lessons, meeting all the teachers and students involved.  Being such a complex domain (theatre), beside the host school teachers we have involved a drama teacher and a ballet teacher. 

The agenda for activities in these 5 days was about:

First day:

- opening speech about the course’ objectives and program overview,

- overview of evaluation questionnaire about M1, in Anamur,Turkey,

- a theoretical approaches held by a history teacher (”Theatre – history and non formal method of education”)

- 2 workshops held by the school counsellor and an English teacher. The objective was to ”enhance creativity and group co-operation” -1, ”Warm ups, build a basic acting vocabulary”- 2,

Second day:

-demonstration about moving on scene (study visit at National College of Art “Octav Bancila” Iasi) Teachers could assist (and some involved in) to a demonstration of moving and attitude on scene (leaded by a ballet teacher) and an eurhythmy class (leaded by a drama teacher).

- in the afternoon we continued with a presentation on ”Forum theatre – concept and historical approach” and  2 workshops on group dynamics, movement and warm ups, storytelling.

The third day:

  • ”Theatre and folklore - a traditional Romanian perspective” an activity designed  to know the deep raisins of Romanian theatre: folklore and mask museum. There were presentations of the early ages of theatre in Romania and also exhibition on masks.

The forth day:

  • Presentation and debate of the study’ results ”Values and interests of adolescents”

  • Interactive session about Choosing forum theatre themes for students plays

  • ”The role of the Joker” or how to build the question for the forum

  • ”How to conduct a public forum session”

  • ”Building scenario and directing”,

  • interactive session designed to ”Create a scenario starting from a chosen subject”,

  • ”Group dynamics, movement warm ups, voice exercises

The fifth day

  •  ”Planning and running Forum theatre process”,

  • workshops designed to ”Enhance creativity and group co-operation”,

  • final reflection and evaluation.
